Elementary Schools: Learn-to-Curl Program
The London Curling Club offers several Wednesday morning learn-to-curl sessions for individual classes of up to 32 grade 7 and/or grade 8 students. Check the club calendar to see which Wednesday mornings are available for booking from 9:30 until 12:00.
Students will be divided into groups of approximately four and each group will be assigned to an experienced instructor. They will be shown how to properly deliver a curling stone, how to brush the ice in front of its path, how to play the different positions on a team, and some basic rules and strategy. There will be a nutrition break in our lounge after the instructional portion of the morning, and then they will have an opportunity to play a short game.
Teachers will be provided with an information package including a detailed explanatory letter which will help them through the application process and to prepare their students for the experience. Teachers may also request a pre-visit by an instructor at their school to introduce the sport to their students and fully prepare them for their first experience on the ice. Students are required to bring a separate, clean pair of running shoes and a sports helmet with them. The club will provide brushes, stabilizers, and sliders. There is a $150 fee for this program.
Bookings are usually made during the previous spring, but there are sometimes openings or cancellations throughout the curling season. Teachers interested in having their students participate should contact the Club Manager to reserve a session or to have their class put on a reserve list.
