Sympathy Announcement - Doug Petch

Doug Petch

We are sad to announce the passing of Doug Petch on April 19th at age 86.

Doug held the position of Club Manager at the London Curling Club from 2007 until his retirement in 2015.

An avid curler, Doug thoroughly enjoyed playing with his buddies in the Daytime Men's league. He was always willing to volunteer his time when needed, helping to organize and oversee various bonspiels and events, most notably the Prostate Cancer Bonspiel. Doug also loved to sing with his Barbershop friends in the Barbershop Harmony Society. He is survived by his wife Joyce and son Wayne.

175th Anniversary Bonspiel

The London Curling Club's 175th Anniversary Bonspiel was held on March 18, 2023 with 24 teams participating. The theme for the day was "Curling in the Past". Below are some mighty fine team photos from the event.

The club was presented with an historical plaque by the Historical Committee of the London Public Library. The plaque commemorates the formation of LCC, and the earliest known curling activity in the city, which was December 10, 1847.

This event was made possible through the generous donations that were made by our members and sponsors, but also through the efforts of the following: Greg and Dawn Lewis, Bruce and Cindy Thom, Gary and Sue Peters, Jeanette Walker, Janet Legue and Marnie Dickout. Larry Lawson provided the musical entertainment. Fay Weiler and Murray Turner did the scoring.

Thanks to all for making this an event to remember!

Sympathy Announcement - Ken Walmsley

Ken Walmsley

Ken Walmsley passed away on Mar 14th in Vancouver BC. He was a devoted husband to Jean and a loving father to Kristen and Scott.

Ken and Jean had been members of the London Curling Club since the mid 1960's and had recently moved to Vancouver to be closer to their daughter Kristen.

Ken was a member of the 2-team LCC squad that won the 1972 Ontario Tankard. He was President of LCC during the 1986-87 season and was a key member of the Board of Directors for many years. He assumed the role of Club Manager in the late 1990's, streamlining operations and ensuring that the club was both financially stable and operating efficiently. Ken was also the driving force behind the "Prostate Cancer Bonspiel".
