WDS Christmas Party

On December 7th after a 6-end curling game and a catered lunch by Linda Arthur, a surprise visit from Santa led to fun and laughter in the upper lounge.

Many thanks to convenors Linda Round and Mary Lucas and all the efficient helpers who made the day possible.

My Sisters Place was the annual recipient of the generous donations of items, money and gift cards from the WDS. Thank you for your generosity ladies!

Nick Shaw

Nick Shaw, from LCC's Junior Program to the European Championship

LCC members Gary and Jenny Shaw recentry travelled to Osterlund, Sweden for the European Curling Championship. Their son, Nick Shaw, plays Vice and throws Lead rocks for Team Spain. Nick, who began curling as a member of LCC's Junior Program, has been living in Spain for several years and curling competitively across Europe. Jenny reports that the team played great, with all games going the full 10 ends, but in the end their record was not good enough to make the playoffs.

Scotland’s Bruce Mouat beat Switzerland’s Yannick Schwaller in the championship game.

Scottish Rotarians

Scotland to Canada Rotary Curling Tour Visits LCC

On Friday, November 11 th , The Rotary Club of London South hosted sixteen Scottish Curling Rotarians at LCC with a Rotary meeting followed by a competitive curling game. The four Canadian teams were made up of Rotarians from Woodstock, Ingersoll, Simcoe, St. Thomas and London. The members of the Scottish Teams arrived in Toronto on November 6 and spent the next three weeks touring southwestern, central and eastern Ontario playing 13 curling games where the scores of all games were aggregated to determine the overall winner which this time turned out to be Canada!

This friendship curling exchange of like-minded Rotarians has been going back and forth across the “pond" every two years (except during Covid) for 66 years! Participants are billeted by Rotarians in each town/city.

LCC member, Brenda Rouse, was a tour member to Scotland in 2018 and was pleased to have the opportunity to host the tour in London on Remembrance Day. The visitors were especially pleased to have Joyce Hetherington and her RCAF veteran 100-year old husband, Tom Hennessey, stop by to share his WWII Spitfire pilot experiences with them.
